SAT/ACT Accommodations
Requests for Accommodations for the ACT, SAT, and Graduate School Examinations
Older students and adults with a history of learning problems or inconsistent academic performance may qualify for specialized testing accommodations when taking examinations such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, MCAT, and PRAXIS. For example, test results may indicate the need for additional time, testing in distraction-free settings, permission to use a computer rather than having to hand-write, etc. The recommendations forthcoming from these reports can also be used to obtain accommodations once the student is enrolled in the college or graduate school setting.
I have had had extensive experience with accommodation requests for the ACT and SAT. Less frequently, I have evaluated individuals planning to take the LSAT, GMAT, and GRE. My reports have been persuasive in gaining approval for accommodations on these tests.
Key Information
Individuals considering evaluation for this purpose should keep the following in mind:
- The ACT and Educational Testing Service have explicitly defined the kind of documentation to be provided. To meet these guidelines, a comprehensive evaluation (see above) is necessary.
- Advance planning is necessary so that the evaluation report is completed by the deadline specified by the approving organization.
Screening
To avoid unnecessary expense, Dr. Van Ost will screen those seeking accommodations to determine the likelihood of approval.
Appeals
If the initial request is rejected, Dr. Van Ost will help with an appeal at no additional cost.
